Q: So tell me about your company. Who is Lookie Lou?
A: Lookie Lou is an online vegan boutique featuring ethically-made women’s apparel and accessories. We’re a small company: a vegan husband/wife team and several trusted, talented associates. We want to make it easier for conscientious consumers to find clothes, shoes, and bags that represent their aesthetic and their values.
Q: How was Lookie Lou started?
A: Lookie Lou was born out of a desire to create a shop for the fashion-conscious and ethically-minded. My husband and I wanted to build and business and a brand that represents our values and demonstrates that clothing can be both kind and glamorous.
Q: Where is Lookie Lou based?
A: Lookie Lou operates out of an office in Glenview, IL, just outside of Chicago. We participate in regional vegan events and welcome all local customers into our office to try on our goods and see them in person. We ship all over the country and have international customers, too.
Q: What are Lookie Lou’s long-term goals?
A: Lookie Lou is passionate about changing the way people think about fashion in general and about vegan fashion in particular. We’re committed to mainstreaming vegan fashion and to helping vegans “dress better,” our motto. Vegans spend a lot of time thinking about what they put in their bodies, but sometimes less about what goes on them. Veganism is one aspect of ethical clothing, but there’s a lot more to think about. How is that pair of jeans you’re wearing made? Where is it made? Who makes it? Who benefits from its production? These are all important questions and we offer a collection that provides manifold answers. We don’t believe that there is any single perfect way to make a garment, but we feel there are many better ways to manufacture.
Q: What’s next for Lookie Lou?
A: We’re coming up on Lookie Lou’s one-year anniversary, and so much has changed since our shop opened. We’ve added three new product categories over the last 10 months: bags, denim, and outerwear. In the next year, we’ll begin manufacturing our own handbags and t-shirts. But we’re also always looking to our customers to find out what’s missing from the vegan marketplace and what they’d like to see us carry.
Laura and Ray, thank you so much for what you are doing for animals! Keep up the great work!!
